What is the goal for the USAN Action Alerts database size, by when, and why?
Our goal is to grow USAN database to 5,000 people by the end of 2008. We believe that getting as many (or as little) people would represent a breakthrough and critical mass needed to have us heard on all levels. Likewise, we will strive to be properly identified in the US Census. The next census is in 2010, so our goal is to significantly increase the number of Azerbaijani-Americans who correctly identify themselves by then, since our numbers are obviously around 400,000 people, but various semi-official figures are lower. Similar underestimates of the actual size of the community are prevalent among all other diasporas as well, such as Turkish, Iranian, Armenian. Thus, our hope is to have 5,000 by end of 2008, and at least 10,000 by the time Census 2010 takes place. Having about 5% of the community registered with USAN is actually considered a success.
