What is the Global Institute of Sustainability?
The Global Institute of Sustainability is ASU’s lead organization overseeing research, education, outreach, and campus initiatives related to sustainability. It was established in 2004 with a generous donation from Julie Ann Wrigley. The Institute’s mission is to catalyze and advance interdisciplinary research and education on environmental, economic, and social sustainability, bringing together life scientists, social scientists, engineers, and government and industry leaders to share knowledge and develop solutions to real-world problems, with a special focus on urban environments. The academic arm of the Institute is the School of Sustainability — the first in the nation to offer graduate and undergraduate degrees in sustainability. The Institute also brings sustainability education into local K-12 classrooms.
