What is the Gifted Rating Scales-Motivation (GRS-M)?
The GRS-M is a new instrument for FCSS. In the past, the TAG Office used continuous achievement levels in reading and mathematics along with systemwide curriculum-based assessments to identify those children performing in the top 10 percent in reading or mathematics in grades K-5. With the implementation of the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS), new systemwide curriculum assessments to identify those children working in the top 10 percent must be developed. This development, like the phase-in of the GPS, will take several years. Schools will begin using the GRS-M, a motivation rating scale, to determine if a child has a qualifying score for the Motivation section. The GRS-M is a rating scale, completed by a teacher, based upon a childs motivational behaviors in an academic setting.
