According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 194.6 km sq (75.1 square miles), all land. Lawton is located south of the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, Mount Scott, and Lake Lawtonka. Named for Major General Henry Ware Lawton (1843-1899), American Civil WarCivil War Medal of Honor recipient, killed in action during the Spanish-American War, Battle of San Mateo, Philippines.
