What is the geographic feature known as the Bottleneck on the mountain called K2?
The Bottleneck is a formation found near the summit of K2 on the Pakistan side of the Himalayas. From http://www.k2climb.net/expguide/route.htm: The Bottleneck is “a 100-meter narrow couloir at 8300 meters that is 80-90 degrees. If it is windswept and cold, the ice in this couloir can create extremely challenging, sustained climbing. At least 10 of the climbers who have died on K2 lost their lives in the Bottleneck.” A couloir, according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Couloir), is “a deep gorge or gully formation found on the side of a mountain.” Photos of the Bottleneck: http://www.explorersweb.com/sitemedia/TSthumbs/everest/20061110xnives5.jpg http://www.explorersweb.com/sitemedia/images/k2climb/20070725
