What is the general rule that applies to injured dogs before being moved or handled?

I recommend following these guidelines.

  1. Determine where the injury is located at.
  2. Examine it to make sure that the injured area is fractured or broken.
  3. Touch the spot lightly to see if the dog responds to pain or not
  4. If not, it is probably broken.
  5. Now you should pick up the dog by its chest (If that is not the injured area).
  6. Carry it slowly, but swiftly to a phone.
  7. Call  local veterinarian or animal hospital to retreive the dog and treat him.
  8. Make sure the dog’s injured area is elevated!
