What is the GCSE Vocational Double Award in Leisure and Tourism?
Leisure and Tourism is a relatively new subject at Key Stage 4: • The Double Award is graded in the same way as GCSE but offers students the opportunity to achieve the equivalent of two GCSEs in one subject, from grade A*A* – GG. • Vocational subjects also have the added advantage of helping to open pupils’ eyes to the world of work through links with leisure and tourism facilities in the local area and by making the topics relevant to pupils since they are based on local and national examples. Employers are increasingly seeing the value of training people from a very young age. Vocational subjects also entail a much higher ratio of marks gained from coursework rather than exams compared with other GCSEs and are therefore suited to pupils who work better on a steady basis during lessons and don’t always perform as well in exams.
