What is the gas/oil mix ratio for a two-cycle engine on a hand held product?
CAUTION : Operating a two-cycle engine on straight gasoline will damage the engine. All two-cycle engines must run on a mixture of gasoline and two-cycle engine oil. On products manufactured 2002 and prior, the manuals recommend mixing these fluids at ratio of 32-to-1 (gasoline-to-oil)*. This 32:1 mixture can be made by mixing 4 ounces of two-cycle engine oil with 1 gallon of gasoline. *For the state of California, use a mixture ratio of 40-to-1. For all two-cycle engines produced after the 2002 season, we recommend these units use a 40-to-1 ratio to aid in the reduction of emissions. This mix 40:1 mixture can be made by mixing 3.2 ounces of two-cycle engine oil with 1 gallon of gasoline. Note: If unsure of production year, use a mixture at or between the mixture ratios mentioned above. All of these two-cycle units can operate on 40-to-1 mixtures. Note: All four-cycle engines run on straight fuel and have a separate oil reservoir, therefore the mixing of such fluids is not necessary.
