What is the future of wireless mics?
Just like radio and TV broadcasting is going digital, many wireless system manufacturers are working on new digital models. However, this is no easy task. The first company to introduce such a system has taken it back off the market, and another company has been claiming for a year now to be just about ready to ship such a system. I expect that when they do arrive, the wait will be worth it. Just as the CD was a quality improvement over the LP record, and digital wireless phones have better sound than the analog cell phones, in a similar way we can expect to see wireless mics improve in sound quality as digital models come out in the next few years. Other technologies are progressing, as well. There is even an infrared wireless mic sold today. This sidesteps the whole issue of available radio frequencies and frequency coordination.
