What is the future of tourism in Vanuatu?
Tourism is the top earning and fastest growing sector in the Vanuatu economy. There are strong moves afoot to strengthen it and carry it forward, in spite of the world financial crisis. Friendly people, pristine wildernesses, live volcanoes, all make Vanuatu’s tropical islands the ‘Must See’ adventure travel destination of the South Pacific. It is estimated that tourism in the South Pacific is estimated to earn $US2billion in the year 2009/2010. This is a very achievable target, having earned $1.5 billion in 2007. Vanuatu is well placed to take its share of the tourist dollar, being the most stable and economical country in the South Pacific, with a vibrant tourism industry. Vanuatu was voted The Happiest Country On Earth, in 2006.
