The Sun Java System Directory Server is still under active development. The 6.0 version will be released in the near future, and work has also begun on future enhanced releases. Sun has not yet decided whether the OpenDS codebase will completely replace the current code for future major versions. OpenDS is being developed for production use in high-performance and high-volume environments, but it remains to be seen how it will meet the needs of the wide range of customers using the current version of the Sun Java System Directory Server.
