What is the future of the Jesse Owens Centers?

Since the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) and Adventure Recreation Center (ARC) have opened, many of you have asked about the current usage of the three Jesse Owens Recreation Centers (JORC). Currently, we average several thousand members a day at the RPAC and ARC, but the Jesse Owens facilities remain an integral part of our recreational sports offerings. Our numbers at the Jesse Owens West Tennis Center facility are at levels higher than before the RPAC and ARC openings. The Jesse Owens North and South facilities also continue to serve from several hundred to thousands of members each day. Fairly significant adjustments to those facilities (and our scheduling philosophies and practices) have even been made to reflect the potential for special events and to provide greater service to our sport clubs, intramural sports, and Physical Activity and Educational Services classes.
