What is the fundamental contemporary liberal view on education in America?
I’m going to bounce around all over the place here as things come to mind, but will try to write things in some sort of a coherant order. Wish me luck! I teach at a rather large university (about 30,000 students) and have been teaching at both that level and the community college level for 26 years now, so I guess you could say I’ve noticed some changes. And not all of them are for the better. Although some of my students would tend to argue this point with me – I had one who called me the most liberal teacher they ever had, somewhere to the left of Karl Marx – for the most part, I tend to keep political indoctrination if you want to call it that, out of the classroom. However, some of our contemporary politicians do get held up as bad examples, and if you have a student or two who is ultra-conservative you get remarks like the one I noted. I think its safe to say as well, that of the approximately 30 faculty members in our department, no one tries to sway students one way or the other
