WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF ZONING ENFORCEMENT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
As has been explained, the City has a set of rules (zoning codes) which are established to create a community which is a safe and a pleasant place to live and where we all try to be good neighbors to each other. Sometimes things are done on individual properties, either knowingly or unknowingly, which impact neighbors and the quality of life we all want in our neighborhood. These are called zoning violations. Whether the City receives a complaint from neighbors or discovers the violation as City officials are around the city, they need to be corrected. The Zoning Code Enforcement officials are the City employees assigned to work with property owners and tenants to inform them of the corrections which are needed to bring the property into compliance with the regulations. Typical problems are things like junk cars, parking on the front yard, and a building have more uses than what it was intended for.
