What is the function of vitamin B5/ pantothenic acid?
Pantothenic acid is readily absorbed from the intestines, and goes through several transformations before becoming an essential part of Coenzyme A (C0A). CoA is a carrier of acyl groups in enzymatic reactions that are involved in many metabolic processes such as the citric acid cycle, fatty acid synthesis, oxidation, acetylation reactions (that involve drugs), and cholesterol synthesis. Deficiency of pantothenic acid is rare, as it is so widely distributed in foods of animal and plant origin. Burning feet is a symptom of deficiency. There is no storage for this vitamin.
