WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF SECRECY?
Whenever there is secrecy, there is the potential for the abuse ofpower. Power is a drug that cult leaders thrive on. Abuse of power isa thrill they find irresistible. The abuse of power can only occurwith a certain amount of secrecy. Hitler kept the Nazi death camps asecret. The same has occurred elsewhere, such as the secret thoughtreform camps in communist China. And secrecy is also a way to obtainpower. What you don’t know *can* hurt you. Con artists (bunko) keepsecret the lies that they tell in order to deceive and exploit theirvictims. The same is true of cults, which are, on the bottom line, conscams. Secrecy keeps the truth out. The truth is a threat toillegitimate and destructive power. Outside scrutiny would exposetheir fraudulent behavior. The Watergate scandal in the U.S. is an example of secret abuse ofpower.
