What is the function of administrative offices of the courts?
The administrative office of the court (AOC) serves as the central managerial body of the court. It is managed by an administrative director, who is often called the chief administrative judge or state court administrator. The AOC arose out of efforts within the legal community to improve the structural and operational performance within the judicial system to cope with swelling caseloads, constraining budgets, and increasing public concern during the move toward court unification. The AOC is concerned with the public’s attitudes and perceptions of the judiciary and serves as an interception point between the public and the judiciary. It shoulders the enormous burden of administrative duties by acting as the supervisory, administrative, and planning body for the courts.
