what is the freshman academy, what is it designed to do, and why is it important?
The freshman academy is intended to assist freshmen in the transition from middle school to high school. By helping incoming freshman adjust, they will be better prepared to succeed in high school in the next years. The goals and expectations of the freshman academy are simple to summarize: Every student should achieve a “C” or better in all classes, have a 95% or better attendance rate, and demonstrate PRIDE (Promoting Respect Integrity Determination, and Excellence) consistently throughout the school year. According to Principal Brian Deis, many freshmen struggle in even the simplest subjects their first year. Those students spend the next three years of high school trying to make up for a poor start. Liberty Ranch is trying to make sure all freshmen have a successful first year, by giving students individual attention and encouragement. “My personal expectation is providing an atmosphere that will lead to student success .” said Deis.
