They don’t want you to call it “hydrofluoric acid” because that sounds too close to “hydrochloric acid,” which is a completely different compound. Hydrochloric acid will corrode your skin if it touches you, but HF, if applied in sufficient quantity or enough of the fumes inhaled, will pull the calcium out of your blood and kill you.
