What is the form of Religion in Pre modern China?
The Chinese, like many countries, had different peaks of religions at different times. The main religion of pre-modern China was Confucianism becuase many people in China agreed with this lifestyle choice and b/c the religion was viewed as more of a lifestyle choice than a organized religion. Taoism came later on than Confucianism and Buddhism is actually not highly held up in Chinese society b/c it s viewed as a foreign religion from India imposed on the Chinese. It was China’s only female ruler Empress Wu of the Tang Dynasty who forced Buddhism upon the Chinese and as you can imagine this was not happily met.
