The materials to be translated are selected within the History Department and evaluated in the appropriate language department. If your language is French or German, you may also fulfill the requirement by completing French 302 or German 332 with the grade of B or higher. For other languages, course work will not satisfy the certification requirement, though you may take courses to develop your expertise before taking the language examination. The language requirement must be met before you take your Comprehensive Examinations.
