What is the food stamp law in California?
“Current law establishes the Food Stamp program under which coupons for the purchase of food items are provided to income-eligible persons or families. The coupons are 100% federally funded; however, administrative costs are supported with combined federal, state and county funds. Under federal welfare reform, most legal immigrants were excluded from eligibility for the federal food stamp program (undocumented immigrants were already ineligible). In response, California created in 1997 a state-only food stamp program, the California Food Assistance Program (CFAP), to provide food stamps to legal immigrants under age 18 and over age 64, who meet federal eligibility requirements except for the federal legal immigrant restrictions.
