A. The Food Marketing Institute Foundation was created by FMI in 1996 as a supporting organization for the Food Marketing Institute. The Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Service tax code. The Trustees of the Foundation adopted the Mission statement: “The Food Marketing Institute Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation affiliated with the Food Marketing Institute. The Foundation seeks to ensure continued quality and efficiency in the food system and is operated for charitable, educational and scientific purposes.” Q. WHAT IS THE SAFEGUARDING OUR LAST LINK CAMPAIGN? A. Safeguarding Our Last Link is an investment in protecting the food industry’s last link – the consumer against foodborne illness. It is The Foundation’s national fund-raising campaign to raise a minimum of $15 million as an endowment to fund food safety research, education programs for consumers and training programs for in-store personnel.
