What is the Food Bank of Western New York?
Each month 96,000 less fortunate Western New Yorkers turn to soup kitchens, food pantries, and other emergency food providers for assistance. Since 1979, the Food Bank of Western New York has been helping individuals in need by acting as a bridge between available food sources and agencies servicing them. One of over 200 nationwide, it distributes food and related supplies to approximately 400 member agencies in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara counties. The Food Bank of Western New York is a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks and food rescue programs. As an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, it meets Better Business Bureau Standards for Charitable Solicitations. The Food Bank of Western New York receives perishable and non-perishable food and other supplies from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, brokers, food distributors, and food drives. Monies from fundraisers, grants and monetary donations are used to supplement these donations.
