What is the focus of the tutoring program: reading skills, homework help, etc.?
The focus of the program is founded upon two main pillars: improving academics and self-esteem. Academically, our goal is to improve reading, writing, and math skills among students. When will the tutoring happen? How often? The tutoring happens twice a week, Monday and Thursday, from 3:40-4:45 PM directly after school. Where will the tutoring take place: within classes, as pullouts from class, after school? What space accommodations must be made? The tutoring takes place at University Park Elementary School in the classrooms they have provided for us. Students will be separated according to grade level and assigned with a tutor at the start of the program. How will tutoring sessions be structured: one-on-one, in small groups, or some combination? It is our aim to keep the tutor to student ration 1-2. Tutors will be in groups of two and paired with two students each, creating groups of six.
