What is the Flood Plain Administration?

0

After the Floods of 1993, Hancock County, in an effort to make low cost flood insurance available to property owners, passed an ordinance to prohibit the development of land below the 100 year flood plain. That ordinance was later amended in 2006? Any development of any property located in the flood zone must have a flood plain development permit. If the land is within an incorporated city or village (or their zoning boundary) the permit must be applied for in that city or village. All area’s in the unincorporated areas of the county must be applied for at the Supervisor of Assessments office.
