What is the first recorded religion?

It’s very difficult to pin down the difference between what we could call folk religion and actual organised religion. For primitive people, the things that we might think of as “religious” were simply part of life – as part of sowing your seeds, you set aside some for the god of fertility for example, and this was as important in order to make them grow as watering them. Even in biblical times, for example, there was still not a clear distinction between secular and religious laws – the ancient Israelites followed the Torah because it was the law of the land, not because it was their “religion” to do so. So it’s fairly difficult to say what the actual oldest religion is. However one that has a fairly good claim is Zoroastrianism, a religion of Iran/Persia which almost certainly pre-dates Judaism.
