What is the First Home Owner Grant Scheme and Boost?
The First Home Owner Grant Scheme is an initiative of the Australian Government to assist first home buyers purchase their home by offering a $7,000 grant. In addition, the Government is offering a First Home Owner Boost to supplement the Scheme. On 12 May 2009, the Rudd Government announced it would extend the Boost for an extra six months to support more Australian jobs and help more Australians buy their first home. Until 30 September 2009, eligible first home buyers will receive an additional $7,000 if they purchase an existing home or $14,000 if they buy or build a new home. Between 1 October 2009 and 31 December 2009, the Boost grants will be halved to $3,500 for the purchase of an existing home and $7,000 for the purchase of a new home.
