Firefox Sync is a Firefox browser plug-in that allows you to access your browser history, passwords, bookmarks, and open tabs across different devices (such as mobile phones) and browser sessions. Created by the Mozilla Foundation, this feature will be built into the forthcoming Firefox 4 product. The information is encrypted so you can only access it when you enter a private passphrase. Using this function requires the creation of a Sync Account, since the information is stored in an online service (i.e., cloud computing). Use of this plug-in is entirely optional, but was added to address the requirement of users to have some persistent information stored about their browsing environment. No information is stored within LPS, or on the local system.
