What is the female reproductive part of a flower called?
The female reproductive part of a flower is called a pistil. It is composed of one organ (simple pistil) or of several fused organs (compound pistil). An ovule-bearing organ is a carpel. A pistil has a base (ovary), with a stalk (style) arising from the ovary, and a slight enlargement (sigma) a the top of the style. Within the ovary the undeveloped seeds (ovules) are produced. The ovules are attached to placenta inside the ovary. The stamen (flower male reproductive part) and the pistil are the essential parts of the flower.
