Fastest in terms of top speed would be hard to determine, because it would have more to do with the car’s aero package and gearing setup; in short though it would be one of the car’s aimed for use at Le Mans. The 917K was very quick here, but the long tail version (917LH) did see higher top speeds along the Mulsanne Straight. But the 936. 956, and 962 also saw extremely high speeds here, and in an era when the straight had been toned down a great deal with chicannes. In the end, I think the 962 version that ran in 1994 is probably the fastest in a straight line (the street version produced by Dauer has a top speed of 252). The 917/30 as raced by Penske would be the highest HP car delivered from the factory. In qualifying trim it is said to have been capable of as much as 1500hp – producing a definite improvement over the 917/10.
