What is the fastest military jet today?
That’s debatable, there’s no concrete answer. You can look up 20 different sources on the top speed of the F-15 Eagle and probably get at least 8-10 different answers. However, I can pretty reliably say that the MiG-31 Foxhound is the fastest, with a top speed of 1,865mph (Mach 2.83). That is quite a bit faster than any other fighters currently in service. Top speeds have been irrelevant for a long time. Then there’s the fact that most top speeds are only reached by aircraft with no external weapons, only a 50% fuel load, and operating at optimum altitude in level flight. Far more important is acceleration and sustained turn/roll rate.
