What is the fascination with the “Wildcat” formation?
The Wildcat formation has been winning games at the college level. Nobody has ever been able to stop an option offense at any level, provided that the team has the right personnel. The only problem has been that QBs get injured too frequently with the option. Once teams start acquiring real QBs that can run, they will be able to pass out of the Wildcat. I’ll agree with you that using a RB in the Wildcat will not work any longer (which is why the Dolphins wisely drafted Pat White to replace Ronnie Brown as the Wildcat QB), but it will work. Back in the 1930s, people scoffed at the idea that the Bears T-Formation would replace the Single Wing. However, after the Bears blew out the Redskins 73-0 in a Championship Game and Stanford had a dominant college season running the T, everybody switched offenses.
