What is the FAFSA Priority Deadline?
The priority deadline for the FAFSA is March 1st. If you postmark your paper FAFSA or submit the FAFSA online by this date, you meet the priority deadline. You are not required to apply by the priority deadline, but it is highly recommended due to the limited availability of grant funds. The priority application date – or “deadline” – applies to the availability of certain programs, such as State grant funds and work-study programs, which are of necessity awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. The deadline does not apply to your eligibility for Federal Pell Grants or Federal Stafford loans. You may apply after the priority deadlines and still be awarded financial aid.
