What Is The Fable Of The Pig, The Sheep And The Goat?
These three animals were kept in a pen together. The goat and the sheep were used to the farmer, and willingly let him handle them. They thought it ridiculous that the pig showed such fear of the farmer, and pointed out that they themselves had none. “No,” said the pig, “That’s because all he wants from you is your milk, and maybe some wool; but when he catches me he is going to kill me.” The fable seems to show that how you see things depends very much on your circumstances. In a similar fable, an ox has to work very hard pulling his master’s plough. He is jealous of the heifer (young cow) who has nothing to do but eat and laze in the sunshine. However, his envy ends when he sees the heifer being led away to the slaughter, and realises that she was only being fattened and pampered so she would taste better.
