What is the extent of the short-term financial assistance?
Eighty families have been helped to date. The average amount is US$2,500 per family. Nearly US$200,000 has been distributed in total. The short-term financial assistance is to help families that have fallen through the cracks and whose short-term financial needs were not met by other charitable groups. The short-term assistance is not the focus of LCIF and Lions. Instead, the main goal is to help rebuild the lives of victims over the long term. Ninety-eight applications for assistance are currently being reviewed. Eighty-seven requests were declined because of ineligibility or other concerns.
