What is the extent of damage to the ozone layer currently?
About the same as it was last year at this time. Since CFCs can only be destroyed in the ozone layer, they’ll take a long time to be gotten rid of. We haven’t stopped nor decreased the amount of water vapor we dump on high, so I don’t expect much improvement. The ozone layer’s global protection has been decreasing since the 1700s, which correlates well with the Industrial Revolution… We usually decide to wait for the annual ozone hole at the South Pole, as a gross indicator of ozone layer health: http://ozonewatch.gsfc.nasa.gov/ … not due to form up for a few months yet.
