What is the experience of the Irish-funded interns who joined the UNV programme for 2006?
They have generally been very positive about the experience of living and working in a new culture, and about the multicultural learning environment of the UN. Some found that the original terms of reference for their placement changed in some cases, even before they arrived to take up their post and that they did not always get the level of supervisory support they had expected. The lesson learnt is that interns need to be robust and flexible, and that those with good practical and organisational skills who proactively seek responsibility and the opportunity to get involved and be useful in any environment will have the most rewarding experience.
