What is the Execution Control List and how can I makes sure mine is setup properly?
The Execution Control List (ECL) is an integrated security feature that extends security to the Notes workstation. The ECL functionality is based on digital signatures applied to design elements (i.e. forms, folders, views, etc.), program code (i.e. agents/macros) and e-mail messages. Every design element within a database (your mailbox is a database), template, and form is signed with the signature of the developer or modifier. When Notes attempts to execute code on the client workstation, the ECL checks the digital signature against very granular settings. These settings specify which particular signatures are permitted to perform authorized functions. ECLs protect your computing environment by checking any attempted action against the signature of a developer. If the signature is not listed in the ECL, or if the attempted action is not enabled, an Execution Security Alert (ESA) is generated (see Fig. 1).
