What is the Examination in Public (EiP)?
The Draft RSS for the South West was submitted to Government in April 2006 and a public consultation ran from June to August 2006. The Secretary of State decided that an EiP should be held to discuss and test the Draft Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the South West. The EiP is to be held by an independent Panel appointed by the Secretary of State. Jim Parke has been appointed as the Panel Chairman, assisted by Rhys Davies as Panel Member and David Lavender as Panel Inspector. The main purpose of the EiP is to provide an opportunity for a structured discussion and testing in public, of the Draft RSS before an independent Panel. The discussion will be guided by a selection of matters arising from consultation on the Draft RSS and what the Panel considers it needs to hear debated in order to test its soundness. This will provide the main basis on which the Secretary of State can decide whether any changes are required to the Draft RSS before it is adopted. The broad questions selected
