What is the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists?

0

The European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists is an organization recognised by the European Board of Veterinary Specialization EBVS). Members (‘Diplomates’) are specialists in the field of Veterinary Ophthalmology. They are mainly working at universities and in private (referral) veterinary clinics. The clinical work of the Diplomates involves the examination and treatment of animals with eye diseases. The majority of these patients are dogs, cats and horses. Before pedigree dogs and cats can be used for breeding, many national Kennel Clubs or Breeding Clubs require an eye examination by a certified veterinarian. ECVO has established a uniform Eye Certificate which is now in use in several EU countries (see www.ecvo.org/natpan.htm). More countries will follow within the next few years. There are two main advantages of one joined European Certificate: 1) Increased transportation of animals for breeding necessitates a certificate that is easy to recognize also in other countries. 2
