What is the Equality Political Action Committee?
The Equality PAC is Basic Rights Oregon’s Political Action Committee. We work to elect fair-minded candidates who support equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Oregonians. In 2006, 90% of Equality PAC-endorsed candidates won their election. We educated more than 70,000 voters and played a critical role in shifting the balance of power in the Oregon state legislature. How does the Equality PAC make decisions? The Equality PAC Board of Directors is made up volunteers and community leaders from around the state. They distribute written questionnaires to all candidates in targeted races and conduct candidate interviews as needed. This group makes the endorsement decisions for statewide and legislative races. The Equality PAC members also work with local Basic Rights Action Teams around the state to provide endorsements or candidate ratings in selected city and county races.
