What is the Environmental Management Entity (EME) and what are the obligations to the EME?

The EME will be a landholder-owned co-operative to be established to ensure landholders within the Goomig Irrigation Area continue to meet the environmental conditions for the Ord expansion, which were established by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). The objective of the EME is to deliver the environmental compliance obligations of the Goomig development area and buffer. That is, compliance with EPA Statement 585 (now revised as Statement 830). Landholders in the Goomig Irrigation Area will pay a levy, based on the area of their landholding, which will fund the environmental compliance. The levy will be advised in land sales documentation. Landholders will also be required to report on their on-farm activities which affect the wider environment – for example, dust and chemical management. An additional fact sheet on landholder environmental requirements is available.
