What is the entire procedure for casting and painting ceramics?
i believe it starts as a liquid referred to as ‘slip’ which is poured into molds and allowed to partially dry and ‘set up’ then the mold is removed carefully. the item is now referred to as greenware and is very fragile! Next the ends edges need trimmed where the 2 pieces of the mold fit together and smoothed out…then the item is fired in a kiln…i do not know the temp or time it takes to fire. after firing in the kiln the item is now harder and much less fragile and is referred to as bisque. Bisque is what u buy when u buy unfinished ceramics to paint urself. Ceramics can be painted with acrylic paints and then sprayed with clear spray paint to give a smooth finish. Or the item can be glazed which requires it to be painted with the special glaze and then fired again in the kiln. Glazing makes an item foodsafe.
