What is the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program about?
The English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement program prepares certified teachers to teach in ESOL classrooms and to work with students in regular classrooms who are native speakers of other languages. The program includes course work in cultural issues, applied linguistics and methods and materials for teaching ESOL. Some topics that will be covered are: language immersion experiences, what it’s like learning a new language, trends in language minority populations, differences between child and adult ESOL learners, and application of technology to ESOL instruction. There will be some field experiences with local ESOL programs, presentations by state and local community leaders in the field, and presentations by international faculty and students. This nine semester hour graduate program will meet all standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for the endorsement of ESOL to your teaching certificate.
