What is the English Language and Literacy requirement?
English is the language of instruction at Simon Fraser University. All applicants, regardless of country of origin or citizenship status, must demonstrate competence and literacy in the English language prior to admission. Competence is expected in all four of the following skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Students with English 12 grades of 75% or higher are admitted are eligible to register directly into writing-intensive (W) courses. This will show on your SFU transcript as FAL X99 credit. Students with grades between 60%-74% in English 12 must either write the LPI exam and score a minimum of 4 on the essay and 50% on each of the other parts or register directly in Foundations of Academic Literacy (FAL X99) and achieve a C grade before being eligible to register in W courses.
