What is the English Comprehension Level (ECL) Test?
The ECL is an official U.S. government standardized multiple-choice test of listening and reading proficiency in English. A computer-adaptive (CAT) version of the ECL is used on the DLIELC campus. Multiple forms of the annually updated, paper-and-pencil version are made available for use at ECL test sites worldwide. The test should be administered only to personnel scheduled for training or jobs with ECL prerequisites. Only ECL test control officers (TCOs) authorized by DLIELC may obtain and administer the ECL.
