What is the Electronic Transactions Act?
The advent of Electronic Commerce has engendered communications and transactions occurring over a faceless network. Therefore, there is a need for reliable methods to authenticate a persons identity and to ensure the integrity of electronically transmitted documents. The Electronic Transactions Act (ETA) was enacted in 1998 to create the legal framework for Electronic Commerce transactions in Singapore. The Act provides for the legal recognition and usage of electronic signatures, digital signatures and electronic records, and also covers the duties of certification authorities, duties of subscribers and the regulation of Certification Authority.
