What is the El Capitan Theatre?
The El Capitan Theatre is a glittering piece of Hollywood history. “Hollywood’s First Home of Spoken Drama,” the El Capitan Theatre first opened its doors to the public on May 3, 1926. This grand theater has been restored to its original elegance, boasting a Spanish Colonial exterior and a colorful and lavish East Indian interior designed by San Francisco architect G. Albert Lansburgh. The stage has been restored to its original 1926 legitimate-theater dimensions, and the restoration has included a newly installed high-speed lift center stage, lights, recently remodeled dressing rooms, and state-of-the-art special effects equipment. The theater offers 1,000 seats and a Dolby SR-D audio system. As an exclusive first-run theater for Walt Disney Pictures, The El Capitan Theatre has hosted live stage shows, world premieres, and other special events that have helped restore showmanship to Hollywood Boulevard.
