What Is The Egyptian Pyramid?
The Egyptian pyramids were built in the old and middle kingdom periods in Egypt. From the earlier times, the rich and well to do Egyptians were buried in a bench-like structure called ‘Mastabas’. The first pyramid was designed by the architect Imhotep, as a tomb for the Pharaoh Djozer. It comprised of a number of mastabas decreasing in width and size laid on top of each other, so as to form an edifice with steps on all side on which the soul of the Pharaoh was supposed to ascend to heaven. This was the first great pyramid of Djozer. The most pyramids were built in the absolutist Pharaonic rule. Most of the pyramids in Giza were built around this time. However, later on when the power became less centralised lesser resources were provided for building these structures and so they became smaller and less well-built with time.
